What is Wills for Heroes?

Legal Aid Service of Collier County launched the Wills for Heroes Project (‘WFH’) in Collier County in 2012 in collaboration with private pro bono attorneys in Collier County including local members of the Estates and Trusts Section of the Collier County Bar Association.  The purpose of WFH is to honor and thank our local Veterans, Police Officers, Firefighters, and First Responders for their service to our country and community by providing them with free basic Wills and related estate planning documents.

Who is eligible for Wills for Heroes?

Collier County residents who are active or retired:

  • Police officers
  • Firefighters
  • First Responders
  • Veterans of the United States Military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard)

Do I have to do anything besides registration before the event?

YES.  After registering, download the attached intake questions form and complete it, and email it back to Legal Aid.  This information is used by the pro bono attorneys to create a first draft of the Will and basic estate planning documents to review with you at the event.

Are ’walk-ups’ allowed for heroes who have not pre-registered on the day of the event?

A limited number of walk-up applicants may be able to be served on the day of the event.  However, it is not guaranteed that a pro bono attorney will be available to serve those who have not pre-registered.  The best way to ensure your participation is to pre-register in advance by the deadline.  Anyone served as a ‘walk-up’ participant will be required to fully complete the intake questions form – which can be downloaded from this site and printed and filled out in advance.
