The first priority at Legal Aid is to keep clients safe.
Legal Aid has formed two special projects to protect at risk clients in need. The Legal Services to Victims Project assists victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, repeat violence, stalking and other abuse defined by § 784.046 Fla. Stat. (2014). The Legal Aid for Collier Kids Project assists at risk children, including those who have been abused, neglected or abandoned.
Legal Aid provides the following services to victims in need:
- Injunctions for Protection (restraining orders against abusers)
- Family Law services needed to escape abuse and reach stability and security – Divorce, custody, visitation, support, paternity, parenting plans
- Domestic violence related housing, immigration and public benefits issues
- Related civil legal services to assist victims
